This article will summarize the changes to Medicare beneficiaries' Part B monthly premium and annual deductible for 2025.

What You Need to Know

Medicare Part B provides coverage for services not covered by Medicare Part A, including durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS). The premium, deductible, and coinsurance rates for Medicare Part B enrollees are determined according to provisions of the Social Security Act. This year, the increases are mainly due to projected price changes and assumed utilization increases consistent with historical experience. In 2025, the base monthly premium for Medicare Part B will be $185.00, a $10.30 increase from 2024. A beneficiary's monthly premium increases may be even higher based on adjustments for high-income enrollees. The annual deductible for all Part B beneficiaries will be $257 in 2025, a $17 increase from 2024. Unlike the premium and deductible increases, the 20% coinsurance for Part B services will remain the same.

 What this Means for You

As the new year approaches, take time to discuss financial responsibility with your patients. You can let your Medicare patients know that their Part B premium will increase in 2025, and they will be responsible for at least $10.30 more per month starting in January. You should also inform them that their annual deductible will increase to $257 and must be met before their 20% co-insurance takes effect. When verifying benefits and discussing financial responsibility with your patients towards the end of the year, you should always consider the projected delivery date. For devices delivered on or after January 1st, remember that not only will their deductible accumulations reset to zero, but the fee schedule may also change. This will likely result in a higher out-of-pocket cost for your patient and is true not only for Medicare beneficiaries, but other health plans as well.
