Ukraine humanitarian aid
Today marks 100 days since the beginning of the devastating war in Ukraine. Limb loss is unfortunately one of the tragic consequences of armed conflict and Össur has made a pledge to donate prosthetic products and clinical expertise to Ukrainian people in need. It is estimated that hundreds of civilians and military personnel have suffered limb loss since the beginning of the war.
In partnership with non-profit organization ProsthetiKa and Ukrainian prosthetic specialists, participants of the Ukraine Prosthetic Assistance project, we will foster a multi-disciplinary approach, carried out in the local community, to ensure ongoing rehabilitation and sustainable clinical care.
To initiate our support, Össur invited two clinical experts from Ukraine to the Protec clinic in Amsterdam for product training this week. Protec kindly offered their facility and Össur clinical expert Anton Johannesson, PhD and CPO, conducted in-depth clinical training with Oksana Lytvynenko, CPO from Kropyvnytskiy and Viktoria Olikh, MD from Lviv. They will transfer knowledge related to Össur technology and treatment protocols to colleagues in Ukraine where newly amputated patients will subsequently be fit with Össur donated products.
As a result of years of experience working in the region, ProsthetiKa and the Ukraine Prosthetic Assistance Project will be matching new amputees needing limbs with Ukrainian prosthetists and rehabilitation personnel who will carry out the treatment. To begin with, more than a dozen individuals will receive Össur prosthetics and clinical treatment over the coming weeks.
Össur has a strong purpose rooted in improving people’s mobility and expanding access to prosthetic devices and has been working with local partners in Ukraine for years. We are committed to doing our part to help people impacted by the war in Ukraine and we join the global community in its plea for a peaceful resolution to this conflict.
