Unloader One^® X Optimisation

From the introduction of the Unloader One X knee brace in 2019, we have been gathering feedback to gain more understanding about how we can improve its usage. The past 6 months we have taken steps to implement the feedback we have received, and we are ready to introduce them with you.

Calf shell size change on medium knee brace

In our experience, the most important aspect in terms of brace usage and compliance is a good, comfortable fit. We have found that patients that are fitted for a medium sized brace can greatly benefit from a smaller calf shell size, which will help achieve a better fit on the calf and help prevent potential brace migration and rotation. Currently sizes XS and Small have a smaller calf shell, and sizes Medium through XL have a larger calf shell. From November 2nd 2021 onwards, all configurations of medium sized Unloader One X knee braces, both in the short and standard lengths, will have a smaller calf shell. Size Consolidation

We are increasingly aware, that the sheer number of configurations we offer can be a concern in limited storage spaces. Therefore, we now offer the possibility of reducing inventory burden without the slightest change to brace function. This is achievable due to the intricate design of the Unloader One X calf shell as well as the universal straps that can be cut to length, making it easy to achieve ideal fit. As before, the Unloader One X comes in compartment and side specific frames, in order to ensure the industry standard unloading function for medial and lateral end-users alike.

Guidance for selecting a short or standard brace

Another outcome of our efforts to optimize the fit of the Unloader One X is an adaptation in our guidance with regards to selecting a short or standard length brace. Evaluation of brace usage and fit has led to the following guidance:

We value our environment and, wherever possible, strive to minimize our environmental impact. New Accessories

Good fit and comfort in everyday wear of the Unloader One X knee brace is very important to us. We understand that not all end-user need’s are the same. To improve on patient outcomes, we have developed new accessories to help improve fit and comfort.

New Össur One sleeve

Expected to become available by October 2021, the new Össur One sleeve will replace previous sleeves. Made with Tencel™ material, the sleeve has a good, comfortable fit on the leg underneath the knee brace, is moisture wicking, machine washable and quick to dry. The sleeve can be especially beneficial for users engaging in sports activities as well as users with additional soft tissue on the thigh.

Anti-migration pillar kit

A small shelf or pillar that can be attached to the calf shell to help keep the straps in place. The greatest benefit is experienced with patients who have less defined calves. This accessory has also seen great benefit on lateral braces.

Short popliteal pad

All versions of the Unloader One X have a pad wrapped around where the straps cross in the popliteal area. Patients with smaller leg circumferences may benefit from a shorter popliteal to prevent bunching of material in the popliteal area.

Strap wrap set

The strap wrap set includes 2 wraps that are adjustable to fit all straps. They especially benefit brace users who experience some discomfort from the straps rubbing or digging into the skin.
