In 2022, Tina Troch travelled to picturesque Italy with her boyfriend Renzo Frulleux, hoping for a romantic adventure through the streets of Tuscany. However, what began as a promising trip turned into a tragic event that would change Tina's life forever, with the loss of Tina's left leg.

My story begins in the summer of 2022, when Renzo and I went on a trip to Italy. We had plans to travel through beautiful Tuscany on a rented Vespa. A tragic accident on a bend in the road caused me to lose my left leg, and Renzo was also seriously injured.
We were lucky that a paramedic was nearby to help us and the trauma helicopter was called in to take me to hospital quickly. The moment my leg had to be amputated whilst I was in a coma was heartbreaking for my family.
My road to recovery
The recovery process was a tough and emotional journey. I remember the moment my father and aunt told me about my amputation. My reaction was calm; I realised that not having a leg was better than having a bad leg. The first weeks after the accident were surreal, as I tried to accept the situation.
Renzo and I were separated as he was transferred to Belgium for further treatment. Weeks passed without seeing each other, which was emotionally tough for both of us. After two weeks in an Italian hospital, I was also transferred to Belgium, where I was finally reunited with Renzo. Before the accident, I was very sporty and enjoyed activities such as running, horse riding, snowboarding and motorcycling. I also loved spending time with my twin sister and friends, and undertaking all kinds of adventurous activities. Now I was facing a new beginning.
The process of rehabilitation began and it was not long before I received my first prosthesis. I remember the day I stood on two legs again for the first time like yesterday. This felt like a great victory. Thanks to my determination and the support of my family, friends and medical team, I made progress.

The role of the Power Knee
I was allowed to try out several prosthetic knees before I found the one that suited me best. My search for the right prosthetic knee led me to the Power Knee, a motor-driven prosthetic knee that provided extra strength and support. This proved to be a gamechanger, as I was not only able to walk faster, but also to last longer. The Power Knee gave me the freedom to be active again.
My dreams and future plans
My biggest wish is to be able to ride a motorbike again. We are now exploring the possibilities in this. Horseback riding in a comfortable way and snowboarding are still on my wish list, and I hope to continue these adventures, albeit with adapted aids.
My message
My accident has changed my outlook on life. It reminds me that life is fragile and that we should enjoy every moment. Along with my Power Knee, I see myself climbing mountains and experiencing new adventures. My story is there to inspire others and show them that there is always hope, even after the most difficult times. I encourage others to never give up, to keep cherishing hope and to keep looking for solutions.

Renzo has been my rock throughout this journey, and together we have endured the emotional rollercoaster of my recovery. His support and love have given me the strength to keep going, and I am proud of what we have achieved together. I am determined to keep growing and exploring new possibilities, and I look forward to the adventures ahead.
