Richard Whitehead is a congenital double amputee who has represented Great Britain at Cricket, Swimming and the Paralympic equivalent to Ice Hockey - Sledge Hockey. He now applies his determination and natural athleticism to long-distance running.

In 2009 in Rome, Richard became the first ever leg amputee to break the 3-hour barrier for the marathon, with a time of 2:56:45

Richard is currently working with the Sports Development Unit in Nottingham (UK) as a Disability Sports Performance Pathways Coach – a job which involves going to mainstream as well as special needs schools. Coaching youngsters aged between 6 and 16, he teaches the fundamentals of sport as well as more specific skills.

His goal is to run in the marathon for Team GB at the London 2012 Paralympics.
