Learning how to walk again has its challenges. Getting up and down stairs and slopes can require some real concentration. Happily there is now a foot that learns faster than its users. In just a few steps it knows how a person walks and how to respond to what is happening on the ground. Adaptive, instinctive, intelligent, the PROPRIO FOOT is the closest thing yet to the human foot.

A world first, the PROPRIO FOOT knows what it is doing. It recognizes changes underfoot and responds immediately.

So, if someone starts walking down stairs for example, it adjusts the angle of the ankle at exactly the right moment. When walking up a slope, it automatically lifts the toe up that little bit further to clear the ground and then positions itself at a correct angle for the gradient, ensuring each step feels as natural as can be.

This anatomically correct response helps create a more symmetrical and balanced gait, reducing the need to "hip hike" when walking or compromise stability by "rolling" over the edge of a step when going down stairs.

Nor is there any need to load the entire body weight on the sound limb when getting out of a chair. The PROPRIO FOOT adjusts the ankle to help people both sit down and stand up again more easily. Overall, the effect is a feeling of improved proprioception – a conscious feel for where the foot is and what direction it is moving in.

The technical stuff

Despite its sophisticated technology, the PROPRIO FOOT has an extremely user-friendly design and is easy to set up and operate. During a simple calibration process, the user takes around 15 steps to allow Artificial Intelligence (AI) housed in the foot to evaluate and memorize that person's unique gait pattern.

That customized profile is then automatically launched every time a step is taken. Sensors pick up on any changes in the ground surface or the angle of motion (going up a step for example). Then the AI calculates the best response and instructs the mechanical parts of the foot to make the necessary adjustments immediately.

When fully charged, the PROPRIO FOOT will allow between 24 and 48 hours of continuous use (rechargeable in 3-4 hours). The foot's total weight is 2.7lbs / 1.235kg and it is available in sizes 25-30cm.
