The four-day program of top-level education attracts hundreds of professionals who specialize in casting, splinting and bracing. Lectures and hands-on opportunities for continuing education form the basis of ASOP's Casting and Bracing symposium which runs from 28 -30 July at the Flamingo Hotel. Top of the agenda are the newest techniques in fracture casting and orthopaedic bracing. Dr Augusto Sarmiento, inventor of the PTB cast and modern fracture bracing, is among the presenters.

The British TV producer Stuart Hughes was one of the first BBC correspondents to arrive in Beirut after the breakout of hostilities in the region. An amputee due to a landmine incident in Iraq, Stuart is determined to keep in training for the Reykjavik marathon in August despite working 20-hour days in a war zone. Seven colleagues and friends from Great Ormond Street Hospital in London have cycled from London to Paris in less than 24 hours to raise money for those who lost limbs in the London bombings on 7th July 2005. The money is going to a special fund, set up through the Douglas Bader Foundation.
